The School for Moral Ambition (SMA) is a new organisation that focuses on attracting the most talented people to work on the most pressing issues of our time. The activities of SMA fall into the following categories:

  • Book and Branding: Launch of Rutger Bregman’s book on the topic of moral ambition - the idea that people’s talents should be used for working on global challenges. Launch of a corresponding campaign to establish a prestigious brand that attracts talent and sparks a movement around moral ambition
  • Community Activities: We organise Moral Ambition Circles and offer the resources for people to start their own Circle. These Circles help morally ambitious people develop a career that matches their ideals.
  • Exclusive Fellowship Programs: Initiation of targeted, highly selective programs in which small groups of fellows (~12 people) will focus on solving one of the most pressing and neglected global problems together.

Please read our founding principles for a better insight into our mission and guiding values.

about the role

A Moral Ambition Circle is a group of six to eight people who explore (over seven meetings) how they can make the greatest difference with their work. During the Circle program you:

  • Evaluate your career, using a new standard to measure your impact.
  • Discover career paths where your specific talents contribute the most.
  • Find like-minded people who encourage you to raise the bar and take action.

As a Circle Starter, you hold space for a group of people through the program. You activate your network (or look for people outside) and facilitate our detailed program for your participants.

Key responsibilities

  1. Assembling the group
  2. Arranging the location
  3. Preparing and hosting the meetings (~ 2-3 hours per meeting)
  4. Creating a supportive environment

What We’re looking for

  • You need to speak Dutch. Until the launch of the English translation of Rutger Bregman’s book ‘Moral Ambition’ in 2025, the program is only available in Dutch.
  • Alignment with our founding principles.
  • Passion for the concept of moral ambition.

We are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment. We welcome Circle Starters of all races, religions, gender identities, sexual orientations, ages, national origins, disabilities, and other diverse backgrounds.

What we offer

  • Network opportunities: we will organise various touchpoints for you to meet people from the School for Moral Ambition, as well as other Circle Starters.
  • Being part of a starting organisation with global impact potential. You can help make it happen.
  • A whole lot of fun. As we tried to convey in our founding principles: ‘We’re not driven by feelings of guilt, but by sheer enthusiasm. We’re simply excited about making the world a wildly better place, and about building a legacy that matters.’
  • A Circle Starter Cohort: a group of 4-6 Circle Starters who support each other throughout the program. The first cohort meeting will be facilitated by someone from the School for Moral Ambition.
